6th Grade Virtual Tour

Sixth grade students spent a class period discovering Ellis Island using an online virtual tour.  They are preparing for an inquiry and discovery unit over immigration.  They will read the novel Letters From Rifka along with their research.  The virtual tour provided an overview of Ellis Island, as well as primary sources such as interviews with immigrants who made the journey to America many years ago.

Remembering 9/11 and Celebrate Freedom Week

Although it has taken me a while to get this onto my blog, I still wanted to share.  5th grade GT students at Gilmer Intermediate worked on their patriotic quilt in remembrance of 9/11 as well as honoring our country during Celebrate Freedom week. They used symbolic words to write acrostic poems. Poems were compiled to make this quilt.

Starting a New Year in the Library

We are getting off to a great start at Gilmer Intermediate School.  Sixth grade students have already been in to check out books and get started on their reading!!  Fifth graders will be coming in very soon.  Everyone is excited to get started reading.  We have some great new fiction and non-fiction titles in the library this year.  Check some of them out!!

We will also be collecting Box Tops for Education again this year.  We can use this money, as a campus, to buy educational products for out students.   Please have students bring them to the library or their homeroom teacher.
